Books for Schools
Eden Cinemas and Merlin Publishers Present €1000 worth of Maltese Literature to Schools
The beginning of the scholastic year saw Eden Cinema’s team up with Merlin Publishers in an initiative to promote Maltese literacy in schools, entitled the ‘Books for Schools’ campaign. Following an overwhelming response, the heads of the respective schools gathered at the Eden Cinemas on Thursday 19th January to collect their prize.
By bringing their students to the Eden Cinemas, schools were awarded with vouchers of €200 or €100 worth of Maltese fiction books for their school libraries. Schools that will be embellishing their libraries include: St. Ignatius College San Sebastjan Primary School; St. Theresa College Birkirkara Primary; St. Nicholas' College Attard Primary School; St. Margaret College Erin Serracino Inglott Girls' Secondary School; St. Francis School Msida; St. Joseph Primary school Blata il-Bajda; St. Edwards Junior School; and St. Michaels Junior School.
Concurrently, a creative writing competition was also held, encouraging school-children to submit a short story in Maltese in order to stand a chance of winning €100 worth of books from Merlin, along with an Eden Entertainment pack. Entries are currently under review by the competition’s judging panel, who will be announcing a winner soon.
Congratulations to all participating schools and look out for our next ‘books for schools’ initiative which will be announced soon.
