Ice Skating in Malta coming in September

30 June 2001

The Eden Ice Skating Rink is set for opening in early September. This new outlet will be outrageously fun and entertaining, in keeping with the Eden Leisure Group's other entertainment outlets. Can you imagine September after a couple of months on the beach roasting in the sun now you can escape the 40 degree weather and find yourself in a world of Icy fun below freezing point.

The rink has been designed by British specialists for the purpose of public skating the whole year round. Most rinks around the world close during the summer months due to the heat but despite this the Eden Ice Rink will remain open 12 months a year. This is an important factor in promoting Malta to foreigners and will be a great attraction for the tourists on the island who can escape the heat to get into the cooler surrounds that they are used to.

Skating is a form of entertainment that is open to all ages. If you are old enough to walk then you can skate. Instruction will also be provided for all ages and all disciplines. While the focus is on public skating rather than competitive skating the options include speed skating, figure skating, synchronized skating among other options that may be introduced in the future including Ice Hockey. There has been a tremendous interest in instruction. Many Maltese are wary of getting on the ice without instruction so we are recruiting foreign and local professional instructors who have experience in teaching people how to skate.

The Eden Ice Rink will include several entertainment options other than skating. It includes a large video games room with all the latest games around suiting the young and the not so young.

Utilizing the Eden Leisure Group's large knowledge of discos a large area off the ice pad is being set up with a DJ console and a vast array of sound and lights. The idea is to set up a disco session where people can skate and dance every Friday and Saturday night.

Another feature will be a large fireplace off the ice, which will be used to warm people up while, still be able to watch the fun on the ice. The Rink also includes a large kiosk, which will serve a variety of foods and drinks. There will be a special price for parents not wishing to skate so that they can come in and stay warm in the kiosk or by the fireplace, while their children skate.

The Ice Rink will be situated in St. George's Bay and will add to the entertainment options already brought to you by the Eden Leisure Group.
